Every year this planing competition is held in a different region in Japan. In November 2012 it was held on the island of Shikoku, in the port city of Uwajima. I accompanied a small group of Americans to the festival and we were amazed at the enthusiasm and overwhelming dedication to making nothing but the perfect shaving. We made a lot of friends and look forward to June 2013 when the Kezurokai is held in Shizuoka. Visit www.briannewellfurniture.com for further updates on the kezurokai tour planned for 2013. The wood culture of japan is difficult to experience for foreigners, and we hope to build some bridges to it in the future. Lumber auctions, joinery demonstrations, temple restoration visits, studio visits and tool-making; we plan to introduce it all. Stayed tuned....
