Whenever I think about these replays that I've been collecting, I am struck a bit in awe as to both how many there are already and even more so by the fact that I'm basically just scratching the surface. Then I grow simultaneously fatigued and excited. It gets a bit exhausting just how much explaining is necessary uploading even one of them, and they rarely stray too far over three minutes...but if you've learned nothing from reading all these words I bombard you with regularly, I'm also extremely excited to have the outlet in the first place. And this game has so much to talk about, it's insane!

Squall Leonhart vs. Counterfeit Wraith
World of Darkness
("Battle 2," Final Fantasy III)

Whenever you fight the Cloud of Darkness or a substitute in the Counterfeit Wraith, you have to expect a higher-than-average volume of HP attacks. It also doesn't hurt to memorize the tentacle attack patterns, but I'll get back to you on that once I've done that myself...I can't even really keep straight the older ones, much less the new variations thrown in, and I'll admit to simply reacting to the attacks thrown my way instead of actually predicting and preempting them. Since several of the new attacks can't be approached the same way as the existing ones, I'd at least making a habit of spotting the difference in the startup tentacle flicks.

I'm not exactly sure what the mindset is behind the whole premise of enemy battles in the story mode's Manikin population, but it gets just a tad tiresome nearer the end if every single battle becomes a struggle for survival. I mean, a fighting game is all about the fighting, so there's nothing wrong with expecting your players to do a lot of it...but where's the fun in being constantly struck by situations that can only really be overcome through tricks that specifically exist above and beyond the game's basic engine? Then all you do is learn to overcome extraordinary situations instead of becoming a more competent battler.

I suppose on the upside, it does manage to teach you a bit about the various intricacies that go into the less obvious aspects of a battle...well, either that or you beat your head against a brick wall long enough to break it down. In this case, the stage elements are my best friend against this sort of adversity. When the stage changes, the Stage Bravery will constantly increase. The first variation seen here is one designed for long-range battles (notice that the platforms even accommodate projectiles by allowing them to pass on through from below) and as such the Stage Bravery will increase faster while the opponents are far apart. The next time it changes, it's a very cramped space, and the opposite will be true, the Stage Bravery increasing rapidly when the players are close together.

I hope you notice how easily the Counterfeit Wraith managed to bounce back from just ONE attack when I was really close to achieving a Bravery Break. It's probably just as well that I didn't actually get one, because it gave me a chance to remember what summonstone I had equipped...

For a nice change of pace, I didn't resort to using either Magic Pot to solve my problems. I remember back to when I got it in the original Dissidia, one of my favorite summons to equip was this guy: the Behemoth. It makes it such that you only really need to secure half the required Bravery for a knockout, then double it and go in for the kill. Just be sure you don't dawdle about it, or your newly inflated Bravery will decrease below the required value. For this reason, it's usually best to overshoot it by enough to give yourself the breathing room you'll need to land an HP attack. He's also only ever a manual summon, though, so if you choose to use, you'll have to put up with the usual amount of downtime that comes with it.

I agree, Squall, what a stupid mission! You should totally change your name to "Leon" and start collecting your paychecks from another series. Tetsuya Nomura will still be there to add belts and buckles to you, though.
