Jane Fonda read excerpts from And the Rat Laughed, a novel by acclaimed Israeli writer Nava Semel, herself a child of Holocaust survivors. Published in English in 2008, the novel tells the story of a five-year-old Jewish girl who was sexually abused by the son of Polish farmers who hid her from the Nazis.

Nava Semel, an award-winning Israeli author and playwright
joined the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme on 28 April 2014 in NYC for the panel discussion "Learning about the Holocaust through the Arts".
