This was on Happy's birthday. That explains the flowers.

This is, I think, one of Happy's saddest songs. Ok, maybe not quite as sad as "Find Me" or "The Chariot" or "Closer" or "If I Ever See The Girl Again" but damn, it's one sad-ass song.

"...and feel the sting of the doubt of my promise" Wrenching. No one ever seems to talk about this song. Is it embarrassing that Happy should wear her heart on her sleeve so blatantly? But she's been doing that her entire life: "My whole life I've worked on this, to shower you with the passion of my youth." Can't a girl get a little attention for her talents? "I don't think you heard me very clearly the first time." Many have listened, few have actually HEARD: "Did you hear me?" Sadly, no: "Hear me" Sigh. Yeah, it's kinda self-pitying, but she's been toiling for 25 years, give her a break.

We videotaped both the early and late show but only now got around to extracting clips from them. We had left our camera at the airport in Kansas City (it was a major trip for us, we had traveled from Chicago to San Francisco to meet friends, then to New Orleans for a conference, then Memphis, then Houston, then Kansas City, then New York for this show before heading back to Chicago) so k8fan had to rent a video camera that really wasn't worth the money, then the Bottom Line charged us to videotape, $50.00 per show! Happy and Kevin split the difference with us, which was nice of them.

After all that the videos came out not so great. Better than some concerts, but not as good as others.
