Back in Tim's Jesus days.
The imagery is too good here: I dropped out of my own race and all the faces rush right past me!!! OMG. WOW. Do you guys see this? Do you see the picture being painted here? We have obviously been born into this race, some call it a "rat race." And Tim mcIlrath is saying he dropped out of it BECAUSE there is no real winner in this overly aggressive rat race to be on top, even if it is the mental desire to simply one-up people as a way of flexing superiority - that kind of thinking is selfish and does not do anything for the greater whole. THE FACES RUSH RIGHT PAST ME. Meaning, everyone else is still going. BUT WE FINALLY KNOW NOW WHAT OUR TIME HERE IS ABOUT. WE WERE NOT MEANT TO BE ANOTHER FACE IN THE CROWD. WOW.

This song still rocks with emotion.  I beat the crap out of my guitar playing it, too.
