You've figured out what you need, now how long until your vision becomes real? There are a lot of factors that affect the timeline of a project. When we first quote you're project we will set out a timeline. We take many things into consideration, for example: - How big is the project? - How much will we have to build from scratch? - When do you need it by? - How much graphic design needs to be done?
We take this and more into account when estimating. Depending on the scope of the project we could get it done in as little as a week, or it could take a while longer depending upon complexity. The scope of the project is the primary factor that influences timeline, but the secondary is more variable. You.
There are a few things that you can do to help ensure a fast timeline. First of all, when we come up with requirements, we need to be as comprehensive as possible. The better list we have of what you need, the more efficiently we can complete them. We've had quite a few projects where we get finished and the client realizes they needed a lot more on their website. While this will always happen to some degree it does tend to prolong the project as a lot of the time it's easier to set up certain features at the same time. It takes extra time to go in at the end and add them. This is a good thing to consider when there is a lot of decision makers in your company.
Sometimes we get requests to just start a website before there's been a consensus on the final requirements. We just like to caution our clients in these situations that this can add many unnecessary hours to the project, and if it's at all possible it's best to have as much decided as possible before the project begins. We're there to help with decision making process and like to be involved, so we don't just leave you hanging.
The other thing that can help speed up a website is good communication. Pick a time frame when you're available. That way as we're working you can respond quickly to any questions or requests we may have. That way also, you can better stay up to date with the progress of your site and have more input. Also, this way you can provide the pictures and text we need as soon as possible. This is a huge help in speeding along a site.
