The 2012 Appalachian Trail Golden Packet Event took place Saturday July 21. My (KA1YBS) station, was atop Pamola Peak on Katahdin this year at an elevation of 5000'
Brother-In-Law Steve and I traversed the Knife Edge this year as part of our long, 15-mi 'loop' trail which started at Katahdin Stream and ended up at Roaring Springs.
Station KATHDN-15 directly contacted SUGRLF-14 (Sugarloaf Mountain (89mi away)) and MTWASH-13 (Mount Washington (165mi away)) via voice with "rubber duck" antenna on 70cm, and via APRS packet via 4-element back-packable beam on 2m.
Several stations were raised on 146.52 simplex from Baxter Peak (5268') earlier as part of a SOTA (Summits On The Air) activation.
