Franz Schubert: Grand Duo Sonata. Allegro moderato. David Montgomery and Camelia Sima, duo-pianists. At the time when this video was uploaded, all entries were limited to 10 minutes. Thus we were forced to cut the repeated exposition, which is included in the original recording. In actual concert, we never would agree to such a structural plunder. Time permitting, we will reload this movement in its proper proportions.
The picture is by Schubert's friend Moritz von Schwind. It depicts a "Schubertiade" (a one-evening Schubert festival) at the home of Josef von Spaun, who is seated at the piano to Schubert's left. Schwind "reconstructed" the scene in 1868, forty years after Schubert's death.
