I talked fast (REALLY fast) in this video so I may redo it before putting this on the new website haha
I just wanted to get the information out fast so I could share it with a new friend (or several!) who have had recently or are having their jaw surgery soon...

The key points:

1. Ice for 20 minutes several times a day for the first 2 days, plus gentle massage (I tried to demonstrate, but again, I talk quickly so use better judgment)

2. For days 3-10 I alternated between ice and heat, with gentle face massage in between, still 20 minutes per session throughout every day.

3. For the first week, try to avoid instant broth, packaged stuff with a lot of sodium in it, and sports drinks. The salts will encourage water retention which sort of defeats the purpose of trying to reduce swelling fast.

4. Drink a lot of water. At the very least, 64 oz. daily. I aimed for 90 oz daily and sometimes got over 120 oz. BUT I have trouble drinking a lot of plain water so I add Truvia and True Lime or other True Citrus to my water. I talk about it in this older blog post: http://www.sashamaggio.com/2011/09/tr...

And in my Week 6 Post-Jaw Surgery Recap: http://www.sashamaggio.com/2012/01/ja...
