Frankie's guardian has been instructed to open the front door just a crack to allow the noise of the busy road into their house while she feeds him. At first, Frankie would not eat at all when the door was open, so his guardian had to give him his food and then open the door. While one can cheat like this for a while, true counter conditioning techniques mandate that the opening of the door predict that food is coming, not food predicting that the door will be opened.

This video shows Frankie eating a portion of his evening meal after the door has been opened about 6 inches. The video takes place at the end of his second week of training. As you can see, Frankie is able to eat with no problems. This is a huge improvement and shows that Frankie is no longer over threshold while just hearing the noise from the road.

From here, we will work up to Frankie eating after the door has been opened all the way, and then work on feeding him closer and closer to the door.
