This one man tour-de-force has won plaudits from Germany to Holland. Ray Stubbs "the Godfather" of the Blues just gets better and better. Also filmed for the upcoming series of documentaries covering the blues namely "Gettin' the Blues"
Here Ray is Performing one of the Great Howlin' Wolf's tunes.
Singing and playing a mixture of: Boogie, Jug-band, Ragtime, Delta-Country and Chicago Blues, in a unique style, performed upon Europe's largest one man band kit. Comprising of: Foot-operated snare drum, crash-cymbal, sock cymbals, foot-operated washboard, hi-hat, kazoosaphone, base-pedal board, jug, foot-operated cowbell, bass-drum, six and twelve string guitars, harmonicas and vocals. No backing tapes....no sampled sounds....just good live music.
This is Ray at his best, blistering bottleneck guitar, gravelly vocals and a harp that angels, let alone Sonny Boy, would have been proud of! This Geordie One Man Blues Band covers blues music by many of the greats.
Some of Ray's influences. Leadbelly, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, Tampa Red, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Memphis Jug Band, Doctor Isaiah Ross, Jesse Fuller, Johnie Lewis, Lightnin' Hopkins, Muddy Waters and Big Bill Broonzy.
Ray has a great new cd out "Lift him up" which you get at his gigs or from his brand new Myspace site;
