When not sailing or painting, Anna Wojna is revolutionising the possibility of diagnosing lung diseases. As a PhD student at the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science at the Jagiellonian University, she's working on imaging lungs using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and polarised noble gases. Her research will make it possible to perform a non-invasive diagnosis of lung diseases at an early stage of their occurrence -- something that simply hasn't been possible before.

Anna spoke at the third edition of TEDxKrakow which took place on 21 September 2012 at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Krakow. Our theme was "Secret Lives" as there's always more to things than meets the eye, but we so rarely take the time to look at what's really going on or what it takes to make life work. This year at TEDxKraków we looked behind the curtain of the apparently mundane and everyday to get a glimpse of some of the unexpected, fascinating, worrying, intricate and maybe even repulsive aspects of life that are usually invisible to us.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations).
