This Post-Show Talk featured dancer Shantala Shivalingappa and her artistic advisor (and mother), Savitry Nair, moderated by Jacob's Pillow Scholar-in-Residence Philip Szporer. The Talk took place on July 4, 2013 following a performance by Shantala Shivalingappa at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Becket, MA.
Post-Show Talks are held at Jacob's Pillow Dance on Thursdays in the Doris Duke Theatre and Fridays in the Ted Shawn Theatre and offer an opportunity for audiences to gain more insight into performances directly from the artists themselves.
The preceding dance performance featured the full-evening "Akasha," choreographed by Shivalingappa and Vempati Ravi Shankar, accompanied by musicians J. Ramesh, B.P. Haribabu, N. Ramakrishnan, and Rajagopal Shakthidhar Vijalapur. The Paris-based Shivalingappa performs in the Kuchipudi style of classical Indian dance, and has also collaborated with prominent Western dance artists including Pina Bausch, Peter Brook, and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
These videos are part of Seeing Dance, Talking Dance, a project of Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, encouraging different ways of seeing, discussing, and appreciating dance. This program is supported by Engaging Dance Audiences, administered by Dance/USA and made possible with generous funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
