Do you know your breast density? 40% of all women who get mammograms have dense breast tissue that obscures cancer on a mammogram. High breast density is among the highest risk factors for developing breast cancer. Currently, mammography fails to detect up to 75% of cancers in women with dense breast tissue. Every woman has the right to know if she has dense breast tissue.
SB1538 requires physicians to notify women of their breast density upon receipt of their mammography results. Armed with this information, women with dense breast tissue will have access to supplementary screening methods that offer a substantially higher rate of early breast cancer detection in women with dense breast tissue.
The key to cancer survival is EARLY detection. SB1538 gives ALL women access to early detection. This is where knowledge = survival.
