This is the SHB trap that I made using the instructions from beehivejournal.blogspot.com. I refer to Boric Acid and Fipronil, they are both used to kill roaches but the Fipronil is much more controversial. No bait should escape the trap and hive beetles can do so much damage that they really need to be controlled. I will use this in addition to the Beetle Blaster. Hopefully this will work. You can check the progress at suburbanrancher.wordpress.com
UPDATE: The CD traps were not as effective as I would have liked. Though a few beetles made it in, I think the issue was the bait. I have switched to the Freeman beetle trap (on the stronger hive only as SHB are attracted to large amounts of pollen) and that worked really well. If this trap proved to be successful, my plan was to order a second one for the other hive.
