Aging is simply defined as growing old. Depending on your lifestyle as you grow up, the process of aging can be hard on our bodies. It can affect your cardiovascular system, slowing down your heart rate; your bones, joints and muscles take a big hit as they shrink in size and begin to deteriorate; your digestive system causes you to be more aware of your diet; you become more prone to high cholesterol, blood pressure and other health concerns. Most importantly, you skin, the biggest organ in our body probably takes the biggest hit of all. Overtime, your body is exposed to several harmful environmental factors, such as the sun for an example. People don't realize how harmful it can be to your skin. There are several factors that promote the aging process, they can often be determined as either a primary or secondary factor.

Some primary factors include, your overall lifestyle, this includes smoking, which products free-radicals that damage cells leading to premature wrinkles. As mentioned already, exposure to sunlight plays a big part in aging, the UV light damages fibers called elastin. The breakdown of elastin causes skin to sag, stretch and lose the ability to snap back. Secondary factors include gravity, which causes drooping of the eyebrows, looseness and fullness under the cheeks; facial movements can play a big part in aging. It's a gradual process and they become more prominent as we get older. Lastly, sleep positions can cause your skin to age quicker because creases are caused by the way your head is positioned at night, most commonly can be seen located on the side of your forehead and in the middle of your cheeks.

There are several things that happen to our skin as we age, you skin can become more rough as this results from a lack of hydration and moisture in your skin. Our skin becomes very fragile, which is caused by a flattening of the area where the epidermis an dermis layers come together. Along with that your skin may become transparent, which is caused by thinning of the dermis layer. Other signs include sagging skin, which comes from a loss of elastic tissue in the skin, as well as causing it to be easily bruised from the thinning of blood vessels.

Although we wish we could avoid aging overall, it simply is just not possible. However, there are several ways to prevent the damaging signs of aging. There are several ways to enjoy the sun without having to see the instant and long lasting side effects form it. For example, try not to intentionally sunbath or use a tanning booth. Apply sunscreen to you face before you step outside and try to wear brimmed hats to keep that pesky sun from getting in your face. Avoid smoking; smoking decrease the flow of blood to your face, and damage can also be done from toxic chemicals in the smoke. Overall wrinkles occur sooner, and run deeper in people who smoke. Avoid excess drinking. People who drink heavily tend to not eat a healthy diet, depriving skin of the nutrients it need to prevent aging. Maintaining a healthy diet, your skin needs nutrition to stay young and healthy, by eating junk food your body is not receiving the proper nutrients. It's important to consume food that contain antioxidants like vitamin C and E, event vitamin A, B and biotin.
