The National Cavaliers Quartet (Leo O'Rourke, Robert Stevens, John Seagle, Darrell Woodyard), with pianist/director David Buttolph, found an enormous audience in 1928 over the airwaves of WEAF, New York.

Eddie Cantor had introduced this Irving Caesar-Cliff Friend song just a few weeks before this recording in the popular Broadway musical,"Whoopee".

MY BLACKBIRDS ARE BLUEBIRDS NOW

Blackbirds fly away,
But that's all right,
The day's all right,
The world's all right,
and I'm all right,
I'm going to be happy, I know!

This morning I looked at the sky,
And heard the Blackbird say, "Goodbye",
And heard the Bluebird say, "Hello!"
Listen, can't you hear
them singing above?
They've just learned that I've
Been lucky in love...

All day long I sing this song,
I sing this song 'cause nothing's wrong,
My Blackbirds are Bluebirds, now!

Bad luck's gone, he's on his way,
Good luck's packed to come back to stay,
My Blackbirds are Bluebirds now.

Go, the little Whipoorwill,
Go, the pretty daffodil,
Go, the preacher on the hill,
The wedding's Sunday
Honeymoon's Monday,
Yesiree, my life's worthwhile,
She looked at me
With a great, big smile,
My Blackbirds are Bluebirds now!

This morning, folks,
the rent came due,
I gave my landlord an I.O.U.,
My Blackbirds are Bluebirds, now!

The grocer's bill I cannot pay,
I've been starving since yesterday,
My Blackbirds are Bluebirds now.

Haven't got a single cent,
All my clothes I have to rent,
I'm so broke I'm really bent,
Still, I'm wealthy 'Cause I'm healthy!
I don't care if I don't cry,
Let my enemies die, die, die,
My Blackbirds are Bluebirds now!

How happy we'll be!
Used to be lonely, used to be blue,
Walking around with nothing to do,
Watching and waiting all the day through,
for someone I could love.

Everything turned out so good,
Ain't no wonder I'm knocking on wood!

I'm as happy as a lark,
No more sitting in the park,
No more hiding in the dark,
Her father, mother, sister and brother
all said "Yes", and she said "Yes!"
And "Yes", I guess, means hapiness--
My Blackbirds are Bluebirds now!
