1 billion people in developing countries live on $1.25 a day or less. Poverty means: not enough to eat, to send your children to school, to afford decent healthcare for old age and dignity.
In these countries, many people work in, or own, a small business, jobs promise a way out of poverty. But in many countries, developing a business remains a challenge:
- How to start, grow and sustain a business - without long-term funding?
- How to prosper - without reliable and affordable energy, telecom, and administrative support?
- How to grasp market opportunity; without market knowledge, technical and financial know-how?

BIO is a development finance institution. We provide long term loans and equity to entrepreneurs, infrastructure projects, banks, leasing companies, microfinance institutions, and investment funds. BIO partners with them so that they can provide jobs, economic growth and help eradicate poverty.
