Based on the 17th-century hymn "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan" (What God does is well done) by Samuel Rodigast & Severus Gastorius
Clavichord: Eric Howard (recorded October 2013)

The clavichord, known for its quiet yet expressive tone, was a common household instrument throughout the Baroque era. Equally common was the custom of adapting melodies from familiar hymns as a basis for new harmonizations and improvisation. Derived from German chorales and played on a replica of an 18th-century clavichord, these pieces combine those two elements.
