A leaked report reveals UN soldiers in Haiti were found to have engaged in "transactional" sexual relationships for food, water and medicine with over 225 women and underage girls. Ezili Dantò, a human rights lawyer, joins HuffPost Live to discuss the report.
Ezili Dantò's Note: First of all, the numbers are vastly understated. To the point of being an outright lie. UN rape in Haiti is widespread and systematic.
Second, it's not "transactional" sex. It's rape and pedophilia because children cannot give consent. The UN perpetrators have unequal power, authority - guns, money, employment access. It's enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, sexual slavery. It's so widespread that it's altering the ethnic make up of Haiti for the next generation, meaning UN actions fit into the category of war crimes and crimes against humanity. It's not a scandal, its not sex but organized rape. The UN silence, lack of oversight and culture of impunity is complicit in these horrific crimes, exacerbates the rape of Haiti girls, as young as 4 to 10 years old, brought to service grown man sent to Haiti to protect. The UN lexicon minimizes the CRIMES as "transactional sex" or "sex for food" to protect the UN perpetrators and the UN as an organization from charges of war crimes, systematic rape, enforced prostitution, pedophilia, forced pregnancy, sex trafficking and genocide charges.
The UN perpetrators' exchange of DONATED food, medicine and clean water meant for needy children, babies and poverty stricken women is the worst sort of UN FRAUD and dereliction of duty. Haiti is not at war, has less violence than all the other Caribbean nations. Why is the UN there???. Haitians demand the UN out of Haiti and the UN rapist to pay child support for the children left behind and to be duly punished. Haiti activists demand a stop to the unchecked sexual abuse, justice for all the UN victims and proper rape counseling, especially for the young girls and boys.
