Jim Yong Kim is urging countries to plan for disasters in order to reduce their vulnerability to catastrophic events. The World Bank Group president spoke at an international dialogue in Sendai after touring areas affected by the disastrous earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan's northern coast 18 months ago. Japan, along with international development agencies, reaffirmed their commitment to providing technical and financial support for building resilience to disasters in vulnerable countries.
