Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 3G Review & Front Light Demo

Pricing & availability: http://amzn.to/Sj2Yde

While I think this is a worthy upgrade over prior versions of the Kindle, there is some unevenness of the light which is most noticeable when in a pitch dark room. The light is not very uniform although still the best lighted e-ink available. There are green and pink patterns to the light. This is something that I think can be improved maybe with a software update and certainly in a future model

I wish the light was a bit more even however I recognize this is a first generation lighted Kindle. Hopefully this improves with future models.

The built-in light is still better than any external clip-on light or lighted cased I've used on other Kindles in the past.

- The LED front lighting is useful even when in a room with some light as it supplements it. No more searching for the best light or angle in the room. That said, you can also turn off the light if you want to.

- There is some unevenness of the light is most noticeable when in a pitch dark room. It's something that I think can be improved maybe with a software update and certainly in a future model. Something you need to realize is the front light unevenness is accentuated in a totally dark room only. When in a room with some ambient light it pretty much is a non issue and when in a bright room or out in the sun, it's completely non-existent.

- The lack of text to speech audio is a negative however, more and more publishers are disallowing that so even if this Kindle included that feature, it may not be able to be used much.

In all, this is a very worthy upgrade over prior Kindle models. The LED light covers the screen nicely and the e-ink is very sharp, book-like and easy to read with.
