How to use the Merise Entity - Association part of the Netbeans module.

Merise Entity Association Diagrams 1. From the File menu, or on the toolbar, choose add new file
2. In the dialog box which opens, select Databases from the list of Categories, followed by MeriseTemplate.mer, followed by Next
3. Give the File a suitable name and choose Finish
4. From the toolbar select the Visual tab, this opens up the visual editor.
5. To add an entity to the diagram, drag the New Entity icon from the Palette (on the right hand side of the window - if not visible select Palette from the Window menu) to the drawing surface * To change the name of the Entity double click the title; * To add attributes, move the mouse over the bottom part of the entity and click on the Add Attribute button, followed by double Clicking the New Attribute label and typing the attributes name.
6. To add an association, the sequence is the same, except drag the New Association icon onto the drawing surface.
7. To create a generalisation, Ctrl click (Press the left mouse button whilst holding down the CTRL key) on an association (or entity) and drag the mouse to another association (or entity).
8. To create the connections between individual entities and associations, Ctrl click on an association or entity then drag the mouse to an entity or association. The cardinality of the connection can be altered from a popup menu created by right clicking on the cardinality.
9. Individual entities and associations can be dragged to different positions.
10. Once complete save the file, the diagram is saved to disk as an XML file - visible from the XML tab on the toolbar. The diagram can also be exported to disk from the icon on the toolbar.
