Anxiety and Rage is the phenomenon when everything fails and one becomes emotionally unstable. This is how I felt when writing this piece. This was the fourth out of five attempts to write a string quartet, and I had to go back to my musical roots in order to produce something worth presenting. the piece itself is very much straightforward and is structured closely to sonata form. The First theme is presented by the violist, then the first violin, then finally with the two violins together. The second theme comes soon after, each slightly different than the first; the two contrasting themes each represent a side to anxiety: despair and solemnity. The rage comes during the development as a more upbeat, gigue-like moment that represents the passion and drama associated with that moment when one comes to terms with the pain exists. The final or recapitulation is the ultimate form of anxiety and ends as the piece ends relatively peacefully. - FS
