The eradication of rinderpest, a devastating animal disease, is very good news for livestock keepers, especially in Africa. More than US $1billion of losses a year are avoided. Scientific innovation, international collaboration and investment from donors, such as/including the UK's Department for International Development, supported the work of teams of community health workers wherever rinderpest attacked cattle. Two of the scientists involved, Dr John Anderson and Dr Michael Baron, explain what has been achieved and how.
