He caught up with Mayu, she stood with her back to him looking towards the village.

"Mayu what the hell? Are you okay? What was that all about?"

With a lifeless reaction, she turned to him.

"The lost village..."

The name struck a repressed cord in Snake, suddenly making him unwell but he couldn't explain why. This situation seemed so familiar but yet it was happening at this very moment.

Mayu went on to talk about hearing stories of a village similar to this, about how a festival gone wrong resulted in the disappearances of everyone in the village. Snake didn't care much for the story. Mayu seemed to have come back from whatever mental detour she was taking so he was relieved.

"Well, we're definitely lost. We must have gone through about two miles of wood. Let's see if we can get one of the locals to give us directions... and this time Mayu, stay close to me."

The siblings made their way down the path leading to the village entrance. It was dark but the sky was clear, no trees blocking the sun, there was no sun. Did he run for longer than he thought? Impossible it was morning just an hour ago there's no way it could have been dark already. Snake was aware of the irregularities happening around him but he stayed focused on the simple task of getting home.

Though the darkness was an unwelcome sight, its moonlight gave an alternate beauty to the surroundings, shining off leaves and glistening in the waters. The shining light caught the attention of Snake, there was something on the floor, a handbag. Inside was a clipping of a newspaper article talking about a missing surveyor on a recent visit to a village. The general story loosely resembled Mayu's ramblings of a village and a festival, Snake made the connection but was looking for more. He rummaged around in the bag and found a picture of a man and woman.

"Hmph a couple perhaps?"

"Who do you think it belongs too?" Mayu asked, curiously walking behind Snake to get a better look.

"Not sure, I'm guessing the woman in this photo and the article maybe relating to this man here too? Maybe a couple or something I dunno."

Neither of them gave it too much thought, it hardly seemed like an exciting mystery to solve but as Snake lowered the photo, he could see a woman in the distance walking towards a house. Could she help them find their way home?
