This fight was almost as exciting as if it were me catching this fish. To be in the same boat and watch it happen was really exciting. Dave Schweigert landed this estimated 500lb. Goliath Grouper, also known as a Jewfish, which is a highly protected, endangered species. He did it using 80lb test line in only 15 ft. of clear, calm water just off the Southwest coast of Florida in Everglades National Park. The fight was recorded using my camera and was about 15 minutes long. Dave really hung in there as you can see his rod about to snap right by his left hand in the video. I saw a guy pull one of these in on a video once and his rod snapped in that area, but somehow Dave kept this one going until we could all see how massive he was. We were all shocked at the enormity of this fish. Pier estimated him to be around 80 years old.

We didn't harm this fish, being careful to not even take him onto our boat as to protect his life. These fish are highly endangered and to be respected. We cleaned up three hooks and line that was in his mouth and made sure he got back on his way home safe.

We were guided in by the best boat captain I've ever fished with, Pier Milito, of Fishing Adventure Charters. His 40 years of experience landed us on more fish than we knew what to do with. His service was excellent and his knowledge about how to fish was very apparent as he almost called the fish we were about to catch. This guy knew his stuff. If you want to get your money's worth out of a fishing guide, you have to look this guy up. You can reach him by going to www.fishingadventurecharters.com
