Each year, the Vermont Council on World Affairs hosts many international visitors to the area under the auspices of the Open World Program (OWP). The Open World Program enables emerging leaders from Russia and other Eurasian countries to experience American democracy and civil society in action, while completing carefully designed programs that reflect their professional interests. It is the first and only international exchange program in the U.S. Legislative Branch. The VCWA is proud to be a local administrator of this program and will continue to host dynamic groups from the region.
This OWP group, from various parts of Russia, was in Vermont from February 4 - 12, 2011 for a program on "Accountable Governance." On Thursday, February 10, 2011, the delegates traveled to the Vermont State House in Montpelier to meet with Governor Peter Shumlin. Thanks to Governor Shumlin and everyone at the Vermont State House for a great visit!
