West Side Story is an American musical with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The musical's plot is based on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno, and George Chakiris star in the movie. The pictures included are from plays and the movie West Side Story. The first song is America from West Side Story composed by Leonard Bernstein. The second song is Finale: Make the Garden Grow from the play Candide. Candide (1956) is an operetta with music composed by Leonard Bernstein, based on the novella of the same name by Voltaire. I know that the second song is not from West Side Story, but I like the music. I have read that Leonard Bernstein composed the music from West Side Story and Candide at the same time. The biography mentioned that he would change his mind, and put a piece of music in the other play. Then the lyrics would be changed too. Perhaps he could have written the Finale for West Side Story, then changed his mind. I used it because I thought the music was beautiful, and very tribute like. Plus a few more people would discover this beautiful Finale. Perhaps a local symphony will perform the Finale because someone heard the music here. That would quite exciting to me, if that really happened.
