Star Trek: Beyond Review
The third movie in the new alternate universe of Star Trek celebrates the franchise's 50th anniversary with Star Trek: Beyond.
Captain Kirk and the crew are out in deep space trying to explore strange new worlds and encounter one which causes them plenty of problems. Featuring Idris Elba as the villain in this film, the movie is at its core a story about those resistant to change.
Standouts are Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban. Urban in particular stands out even more in this edition of the franchise with his portrayal of Dr. McCoy aka Bones and the relationship with Spock which has not been fleshed out as much in the current movie series as in the original films and television show.
There is also to controversy around Sulu being retconned as a gay character, George Takei's take on the change, and the unfortunate deaths of Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin between the last Trek film and this one.
