MAGICAL JOURNEY, a memoir by Katrina Kenison about her search for purpose, meaning, and joy in the midst of loss and change, has been called "warm and wise, soul-searching" (Kirkus Reviews). More an account of a spiritual journey than a physical one, MAGICAL JOURNEY explores the belief that even as old identities are outgrown, new ones begin to beckon, inspiring readers to summon their courage to heed the call.

This short film features an excerpt from the book, in which the author receives a powerful and life-affirming letter, sent to her by her own true self. Available wherever books are sold, and to order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and IndieBound. Visit Katrina at http://katrinakenison.com

Video Script

An envelope arrives, addressed to you. The handwriting is familiar, but it takes you a minute to recognize it. Your own. Funny how easily you can still lose sight of who you really are. But now you see what this is: it's a letter from you, to you. In fact, it's from the deepest part of your innermost being. Your own true self.

"What I want to say to you, my dear, is this: Just for today, live the passionate truth of who you are. Stop looking at what is undone, the goals you haven't met, all the places you've fallen short. Look, instead, into your own full heart. If your path brings you to a choice between love and fear, choose love. Choose love even when it scares you to death to feel that much, or to risk that much. Vulnerability is its own gift. Offer it. Be brave enough to be vulnerable.

Allow yourself to be seen—dancing, and falling, and failing, and trying again. Your most painful mistakes are also your greatest opportunities. Be gentle with yourself. I have a word for you. A word for every wrong turn you've ever made; for every stupid choice that still causes you to wince with regret: Forgiven. Allow that word into your heart, and carry it with you , Share it with someone else who suffers. Forgiven.

Your own presence is a force for healing. So be present. There is more going on than you know, support surrounding you than you can even begin to imagine. Trust it. You don't have to do this alone.

Trust your teachers. They are everywhere. Most of the lessons are free.
Grace isn't a prize you need to earn. Grace is the gift of being alive, right here and right now -- no matter how many challenges await. Have faith that your life as it is -- messy, and muundane, and fleeting -- is life just as it is meant to be. Remember, there is only one of you, now and forever. And the present moment is the only moment there is, the one where your real life happens. Embrace it. Be who you are.

You know that loss and sorrow come with the territory. That pain is part of being human. That grief and gratitude walk hand in hand. Nothing lasts, and yet within each ending is the seed of a beginning. To live is to change, endlessly, and sometimes at great cost. It's okay to melt, to yield, to cry. Even your tears serve a purpose: They are watering something new. Something you can't see yet, but that has already begun to grow, unfurling in the deep, rich soil of your own soul. And just as sunshine always follows rain, joy returns to you. Laughter is a song you are meant to sing. Why not sing in the dark? Trust that morning will come, and keep on singing. Sing the biggest, fullest song you can. Sing your song of praise to the world, even when it seems as if no one is listening.

Your own strong roots are in place—in your body, in the earth, in the ongoing story of your life, just as it is. Put your faith in those roots, and allow yourself to go with the flow. Trust that paying attention is your spiritual practice. That kindness is your highest calling. That the blessing you hunger for is already yours. And that love is the answer to your most urgent question: What am I really here to do?)

Let go now. And breathe into the goodness of all that you are. Move with the current, not against it. This is your journey. Resist nothing. Let life carry you. You have work to do. Begin it."
