Commercial fishing is emptying the sea and destroying many other forms of marine life and their habitats in the process. In fact, 80% of stocks are so over fished that the fish cannot replenish their numbers. With 30% of species on the brink of commercial extinction!

European fisheries receive 3.4 billion euros each year in subsidies to maintain an unprofitable industry that empties the sea of fish and wrecks undersea habitats. Subsidies that support a fishing fleet three times too big for the amount fish left in the sea. Furthermore, European super trawlers are subsidized to over fish the waters of developing countries of West Africa and the Indian Ocean depriving the local communities of fish, often their only source of protein.

Subsidies to fund an unsustainable industry that according to Europe's own laws - is illegal. Fishery Subsidies are due for renegotiation this year. Here's an opportunity to stop this devastating system of over fishing and replace it with a sustainable industry so that there's always plenty of fish in the sea.

Use your democratic right to protest and demand that tax payers' money goes towards supporting conservation and NOT over fishing. Allowing fish stocks to rebuild and seas to recover so that Friday nights will always have fish and chips on the menu.
