Energizing Local Communities through Biomass Heating Solutions: Pros, Cons and Policy Considerations
The students of Clarkson University's Adirondack Semester conducted research to gain a comprehensive understanding of the economic, environmental, political, and social aspects of biomass heating implementation for residents and businesses in northern New York state. Additionally, they toured a wood pellet manufacturing facility, local pellet boiler projects, a forestry site, and attended many presentations from industry professionals.
The purpose of their work was to understand how to harness the extensive natural resources of the Adirondack region for renewable biomass heating, which would provide local economic prosperity and energy security while simultaneously encouraging environmental sustainability.
