Title: MY BAREFOOT FRIEND Korean: 오래된 인력거 South Korea, 2011 Director: LEE Seong-gyou
Like the protagonist of this film, director LEE Seong-gyou seems also to have run along the roads of Calcutta, briefly experiencing the pain and suffering of the rickshaw drivers. Lee has focused for many years on the plight of migrant workers in this region of India and he shot this richly textured, beautiful and heartbreaking documentary on a DSLR camera, which likely explains how he was able to get the stunning, close-up footage featured throughout the film. If the trailer can be this powerful, the film looks to be even more so.
