This is the original sounder of 1010 WINS. 1010 WINS chose this sounder from a production music library because of its "Streets of New York" sound (as per Adam C. Powell III, who discussed this in a comment on the current sounder in a New York Times article in 2010). This composition was used by 1010 WINS from 1974 to 1993 and was the top of the hour, twenty after the hour and forty after the hour sounder. 1010 WINS replaced this sounder in 1993 with a package of three different sounders by an unknown composer (I am still looking for the composer of those three sounders). The three sounders are similar in nature to the opening portions of this music (save for a small tweak in the xylophone clicking), but all three have different opening elements. The top of the hour sounder in the 1993 package starts with a six-note horn leading into the xylophone. The 20 minute sounder starts off with a flashing sound effect. The forty minute sounder starts off with a Morse code-like piano beat and is similar in sound to this song. 1010 WINS updated their theme again in 2010, with a new top of the hour sounder similar in nature to the 1993 version composed by Foster Kent. Foster Kent also composed new twenty and forty minute sounders which were used on air, but 1010 WINS opted to restore the twenty minute (although with the Foster Kent xylophone fanfare dubbed over the original) and forty minute (as it originally sounded, with no edits) sounder from the 1993 package. I would love to put the 1993 and 2010 updates on this channel, but unfortunately 1010 WINS is unwilling to send me those sounders, due to station policy. I would love to add those sounders for your (and my own) listening pleasure someday, but this will suffice for now. 1010 WINS is one of my favorite sources for news, right up there with The New York Times and NPR, and I love their sounder. I want to thank youtube user TServo2049 for giving me this sounder back in September 2012 in an email. This content was created by Ib Glindemann and the rights to the song belong to him.
