UNITY Poem by Peter Wolrich

In the high Alps
where the air purifies the lungs,
the altitude clears the head,
the view awes the Spirit
and the effort exhilarates the whole Being;
There you may search for the Absolute.

In the low Rub al Khali Desert
where the heat slows the rhythm of the breath,
the emptiness turns the mind inward,
the visible is often mirage
and the stillness unifies the inner and outer worlds;
There you may find out who you really are.

On the rough North Atlantic seas
where the wind, salt and movement excite the respiration,
where the attention is alert and intense
and the eye follows and seeks to discern the shifting horizon
while the constant rise and fall troubles the Soul;
There you may work to master the probabilities of action and interaction.

Mountains, dunes and waves
all form and transform
though at different speeds in different spaces,
and Absolute, self and action
may all be revealed
as part of an even greater Whole that transcends
what we think we know of Being, time and space;
and having seen this with your inner eye
you may enter the radiant sun-filled garden
where the sedentary, rainbow-colored flowers exude their multiple perfumes
and the flitting, agitated birds chant forever their infinite panoply of song
and the trees generate succulent fruits while raising their branches to ever higher skies;
There, with the one who, like you, has traversed the threefold path,
There, with the one you love,
you may unite together with the All
and rediscover,
here on earth,
the purity of Paradise.
