A Conference hosted by the U.S. Air Force virtual Air Force base "Huffman Prairie Estate", developed in collaboration with the U.S. National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) & Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JPL), on an island in Second Life. The conference location is the Huffman Prairie "Chi Region" holographic extended virtual learning spaces' "Global Learning Forum Event Hall". The Conference, "Educational Informatics: Supporting Authentic Learning Experiences", offers "a review of research and prototype explorations regarding the use of Second Life as a virtual reality world for the provision of educational informatics", & features Vanderbilt University keynote speakers Nancy M Lorenzi , M.L.S., M.A., Ph.D. , Professor of Biomedical Informatics, Clinical Professor in Nursing, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Health Affairs, Department of Biomedical Informatics, Vanderbilt University Medical Center (http://dbmi.mc.vanderbilt.edu/people/...) & Dr. Tom Elasy, Medical Director of the Eskind Diabetes Clinic, Director of the Prevention and Control Core of the Diabetes Research and Training Center, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (https://medschool.mc.vanderbilt.edu/f...). At the end of the conference the Air Force presented a video on the Huffman Prairie Estate, described as a virtual 3D immersive learning environment, exploring "the art of the possible" & providing a place for educators to identify and share promising educational technology in enhanced learning & performance using virtual reality. The estate is organized into several specific focus regions including Omega (learning excursions and repository), MyBase/Zeta (role immersion & recruiting/simulation gaming for learning) & Chi (educational holograms).
