The Adelaide Festival Centre, one of the leading performing arts centers in Australia, has launched a spectacular new event, the inaugural Adelaide International Guitar Festival (November 23 -- December 2, 2007). The new ten day festival is inspired and assisted by the New York Guitar Festival. Over 100 musicians from around the world will converge on Adelaide to celebrate the guitar in over 40 guitar-centric events, spanning music genres including jazz, classical, rock, experimental, blues & roots, world, and more.
With the State Government of South Australia committed to funding the event for a minimum of four years, it is expected that the Adelaide International Guitar Festival will soon become an important and permanent fixture in Australia's music events calendar.
"Encompassing major outdoor concerts, small intimate performances in theatres, masterclasses, forums, films and exhibitions the Adelaide International Guitar Festival promises to become a major event in Australia's arts calendar," says The Hon John Hill, Minister Assisting in the Arts.
"As part of the plan to make the Adelaide Festival Centre the nation's most innovative arts hub we are delighted to present the first Adelaide International Guitar Festival ", says Douglas Gautier, CEO of the Adelaide Festival Centre.
"Our players come from across the US, Europe, South America, India, West Africa and Australia. Of course, telling the guitar's fascinating story in ten days is a little like visiting Australia and only seeing Uluru and Bondi Beach. But this is a good place to begin", says David Spelman, the festival's Artistic Director.
