We assert that a citizen organized, community supported safe sleep sanctuary can reduce the problems associated with homelessness in the community at large and also help those who are living outside.

There are many ways folks come to live outside in our community but the avenues back to living in a shelter or home are pitifully few.
The problems of homelessness exacerbate the conditions of homelessness.
The effects of homelessness on the community are nearly unquantifiable, including crime enforcement and the justice system; medical emergency and mental health programs; the environmental costs: in addition to the homeless services available on many fronts.

Despite the great expense, only 5% of the homeless population are in the shelter system.
For pennies on the hundreds of dollars spent on this problem there is an effective solution.
We propose a Sanctuary camp that features a strong set of rules consistently enforced.
Sanctuary camps have shown positive results in many cities on the west coast.

Everyone agrees that our homelessness problem is unacceptable. Here is a well articulated proven solution that has it's basis in many examples from all over the country. All of the symptoms of homelessness can be completely eliminated for pennies on the dollar for what we're spending with a much better out-come for the community outside of the camp as well as within.
A presentation to the community of Santa Cruz. We welcome you to a new conversation about homelessness. We're excited to share this new vision with you.

Please join us as we meet every Wednesday 6pm at Mission Plaza Fountain for a planning committee and general interest meeting. All are welcome.
