Universalism teaches that God is too merciful to destroy anybody, so all will be saved, promoter of 'Once saved, always saved' doctrine. It is a soul-destroying belief; there is no foundation of this theory in the Bible. In Gen 18:23 Abraham divides the people in the world into two groups, righteous and wicked. God was willing to spare the people in the city of Sodom if there was 50 righteous people in Sodom. Spare is not save. Spared people still remain in a sinful state with an extended opportunity to confess and repent, ask to be saved and turn from their sins and be saved. Jesus came to this world to save His people from their sins (Mat 1:21) , not in their sins. In Gen 7:1 Lord finds Noah and all in his house righteous, This implies that He found all others unrighteous or wicked. Lord shut (Gen 7:16) Noah and his family in the ark, which means He shut the other people out. When the door of the ark was open then the wicked were lost with hope. When the door of the ark was closed, then the wicked were lost without hope. There are two ways to be lost: lost with hope and lost without hope. A sinner is lost with hope when his life is spared in spite of his sins, he still has probation so he can take advantage of the opportunity and repent, confess his/her sins, ask for forgiveness and be saved. A sinner is lost without hope when his/her probation closes. Today is the day of salvation, when our probation is still not closed.
