Ani Turner, deputy director of Altarum Institute's Center for Sustainable Health Spending, discusses highlights of the March 2012 Health Sector Economic Indicators (HSEI). In this short (less than 2 minute) info-graphic/animation/video, Ms. Turner emphasizes soaring U.S. health care employment logged in January and February 2012 -- at 46,000, the highest two-month average increase ever. This job creation has brought the health sector share of total national employment to an all-time high of 10.8%. She also raises the paradox of how extraordinarily large health care employment gains can occur simultaneously with near record low health care expenditure growth (3.4% in January 2012 compared with January 2011), and health care price inflation settling at a 13-year low of 2.0% in January 2012. Ms. Turner looks ahead to resolution of this paradox with new and potentially revised data that will be released on April 12, 2012 in the next monthly HSEI briefs.
