http://ArthurBrooks.AEI.org Arthur Brooks, author of the new book "The Road to Freedom," takes on the top myths about free enterprise. Part 4: "Free enterprise is social Darwinism."
There's nothing that's socially Darwinistic about free enterprise. Free enterprise means we must work together as people and lift each other up. If you're an entrepreneur, you need customers, you have to treat them right, and your customers need you. You need employees, you have to treat them right, and your employees need you. People work together best when they're interconnected in their needs and wants. We have figured out, without any government control, that we can work together for mutual benefit. That's the reason we're a happy, prosperous country, and not just in money -- in all the stuff that really matters. Free enterprise makes us a better, happier, more interdependent society.
