The spectacular ride on the La Veta Mountaineer is near impossible to photograph. The grandest scenery is on a hunting ranch . No roads. Rugged terrain. The train, helicopter, permissions to make long hikes with camera equipment and camp and mountain climbing gear, these are the ways to access this part of the Spanish Peaks area of the Sangre de Cristo range.
Over 200 photographers sign for the first Photo Op train on August 26.
This is one piece of my footage from this day. The grade is over 3%. Turn speakers up. Backing the train, set up, talk, rationale by staff, all are kept in this scene. I did not edit this clip.
This is the west portal of Upper Tunnel. We did not shoot on the east portal of Upper Tunnel. There is no place to stand at the east entrance. Per Doris and Becky Osterwald, somewhere near the east entry is the site of Codo, CO. Nothing remains of Codo.
Thanks to San Luis and Rio Grande staff for this great photo op day. A great job by all. Thank you.
