The Interfaith Emergency Winter Shelter, in Bloomington, Indiana hosted its first Crowd Funding campaign in July and August 2014. The success of our first Indie Go-Go campaign was phenomenal. Thanks to community sharing, we were able to raise over twenty one thousand dollars online, and over thirty thousand dollars through offline donations. We were both truly astonished and deeply grateful.

Thanks to the funds raised, we were able to host a successful 2014-15 season of the Shelter, for 151 total shelter nights, providing 7300 warm, safe nights of sleep to our guests. Over six hundred community members volunteered at the shelter during the winter season, giving 10,000 hours of service.

The Interfaith Winter Shelter (IWS) is seen as an emergency response to prevent individuals without homes from freezing on the streets of Bloomington in the winter. Since the Shelter’s establishment, the number of deaths due to exposure to the weather in Bloomington has decreased dramatically.
