How does Piggy Bank work? The foundation launched in September 2015 will gift breeding stock to family farmers. The physical Piggy Bank farm will have 10 heritage breeds living side-by-side and will produce 600 offspring each year. The offspring (breeding stock) will be gifted to farmers in exchange for a business plan. All business plans will be shared online for the community. Piggy Bank will also become a safety net for existing farmers who don’t have enough money to diversify bloodlines or require assistance to rebuild following a disaster. Additionally, pigs not given to pasture will be sent to culinary schools for education and research. Fast forward five years, Piggy Bank has gifted thousands of pigs whom are producing offspring in a community of farmers reading hundreds of business plans online and sharing ideas of open source agriculture in a vibrant conversation all over North America. Piggy Bank is a foundation - a transparent agriculture model for the family farming movement.
