Georg von Albrecht's father, Johann Gottlieb David Albrecht, German by birth, was a mathematician and university inspector in Kazan, now the capital of Tatarstan. As a Real State, he was awarded the hereditary title of nobility. Albrecht's mother, Barbara, was born Mishchenko, the daughter of a Russian Cossack colonel. She was a trained pianist with concert musician, but practiced their profession after marriage no longer public. Georg Albrecht was the fifth child. When his father was inspector in St. Petersburg University, the family followed him there. Albrecht received basic schooling at home. It was not until the age of 10 he entered a high school. The world of science and music were now determining factor for the boy, who occupied himself during his school days with folk melodies from the Crimea, the Caucasus and the Ural Mountains, and they recorded them.

After his father's retirement in 1908 the family moved to Tsarskoye Selo (now Pushkin). There was the Albrecht graduated with highest honors. Then he began studies in philosophy at the University of St. Petersburg, however, disappointed him.

His piano playing was mainly thanks to the lessons with his mother and the music students Kisselev meanwhile progressed so that the father agreed to by him with Max Pauer, the 1910/11 in St. Petersburg concerted imagine. This was achieved but only in Stuttgart, where Albrecht went in 1911 with his parents and where he passed the entrance exam at Pauer for study at the Royal Conservatory of success. His father went back, his mother stayed with him. Now Albrecht studied with Max Von Pauer, Theodor and Heinrich Lang Wiehmeyer first piano and related subjects and eventually composition. Graduated as a concert pianist from 1914 he put in a public concert.

At the outbreak of World War II, he spent his vacation in Russia. There he stayed and studied, exempted from military service, 1914/15 Sergei Ivanovich Taneyev counterpoint with Moscow. 1917/18 was followed by Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov and studies with Joseph Wihtol in St. Petersburg. Important for his artistic development during this time, the encounter with Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin and his friendship with Vladimir Ivanovich Rebikow.
In St. Petersburg he sat exams as a composer and pianist and earned a diploma, from which he thought it helped him in the Russian Empire as a working musician can be.

1923 him a study trip was with his mother back to Stuttgart, where he stayed and studied with Ewald Sträßer Instrumentation, after he hatte.Dort The Basics of Orchestration by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov already worked through independently completed toward the end of winter semester 1924 studying music with the high school diploma in piano and composition with Max Pauer of finally starting.
