an installation by Atom Egoyan
Aurora Mardiganian was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. In 1918, her horrifying experience was published in a book called RAVISHED ARMENIA which was made into a major feature film the following year. Aurora also acted in this film and was sent on an exhausting national tour to publicize the project. During this time, she suffered a mental breakdown, and couldn't complete the tour. The film's producers then hired seven Aurora lookalikes to finish the promotional presentations. The text in this installation is based on Aurora Mardiganian's first hand account of the horrors she witnessed.
