This is a babington burner made with a section of 22mm copper pipe instead of a ball. It does not stay lit without a flame guide, but once the flame guide is fitted, it stay lit perfectly...at least until air pressure exceeds 60psi.
It was difficult to picture, but the flame coming from the jet is blue in colour, although droplets of oil spat onto the rim of the can are burning with a yellow flame. Once I've mastered the fuel flow (there's no regulator at the moment) and the air pressure, I expect this will become better (it's only my first attempt!).
