The Bloomington City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to deny a liquor license renewal for a Bloomington business that has a history of underage liquor sales.

Liquor Time at 5206 W. 84th St. has been the subject of repeated underage sale incidents. In a hearing before an administrative law judge, the council declared the recent violations willful, which bring a stiffer penalty than those deemed inadvertent.

The stores owner and attorney implored the council not to deny the renewal, saying it would amount to the loss of the business. Council members responded by saying that the business had been afforded opportunities to ensure compliance with age checks and failed to do so.

There are rumors of a pending sale of the business, which otherwise is closed.
