For most, "Billy the Kid" is the stuff legends and folklore are made of. But for one lucky (and loaded) winner at Saturday's auction, the lone photograph of the American outlaw will soon have a new home.
The photo was taken in 1879 and is a mere 2" x 3" in size, and bidding will likely start at a rather, eh, hefty $400,000. Why so much? The answer's simple.
"It's the only one there is, and it's been scrutinized and authenticated by every expert in the country," said auction owner Brian Lebel. "There's no doubt who it is and what it is."
